What Makes Head Start Different
Jefferson County Head Start is a free, high-quality preschool program for children ages 3-5 in Jefferson and Western Kenosha Counties. Funded by state and federal support, our program focuses on school readiness and whole-child development, helping children succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.
In every classroom, you’ll find caring, qualified teachers, each holding a Bachelor’s degree and licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to teach PreK. We also proudly partner with some local school districts to offer 4K services.
Our impact goes beyond academics.
We work closely with families to support children’s growth at home and at school. In addition to early education, Head Start provides comprehensive services including:
Nutrition and wellness education
Medical, dental, and mental health support
Parent engagement and coaching
Social-emotional skill development
At Head Start, we believe parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. That’s why everything we do is grounded in partnership with family, educators, and the community. Every child deserves the chance to thrive.
Our Mission
Jefferson County Head Start is committed to serving families, partners and communities by promoting positive outcomes and healthy development with respect to the diversity of each child’s family. Our highly qualified staff is passionate and committed to providing services and partnering with families to support both school and home in the areas of early education, health and wellness, and family engagement. We are dedicated to nurturing the role of the family as the primary educator and advocate for their child(ren).
Our Partners and Civic Organizations
In accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, it is necessary to provide available resources within the community that may address the needs of eligible children and their families. Some of these services and organizations are part of ongoing collaborative partnerships with our program, while others provide additional support beyond that which exists as a result of formal collaboration.
We couldn’t do a lot of our services, without the generous help of our Head Start Partners and the Civic Organizations in our areas. We are grateful to the partnerships that have been developed and look forward to our continued work for the children and families.
